Digital Pinhole

I’m going to come right out and say it. Pinhole cameras are a ton of fun. I made a pinhole for my EOS 5D following the instructions found here. Making a pinhole is easy. The only tool you really need is a drill. I have not figured out how to get my pinhole images really […]

Lightning

So you know to never delete photos in camera right, don’t you. Yesterday yielded yet another spectacular electrical storm that lumbered through the area. I was in the middle of cooking dinner and preparing to edit photos with Kaylin for this month’s Photo Night. I kept seeing these flashes of lightning outside my window. I […]

Taking the Plunge

Ok, here is one from the archives. I spent the summer of 2004 teaching photography in London. When the program was over my friend Naemeh and I traveled to Brighton Beach in the south of the UK. At the end of the pier several kids where jumping off into the Channel. One thing you have […]

Farm with Fence

This is another shot from my travels in the Valley. The sun hid itself behind a cloud and gave all the colors a subdued look to them. Everything looked so peaceful.

Fly High Dragonfly

This little guy really liked the radio antenna on my car. He would fly off and then come back to his perch every few seconds. He even stuck around as I opened the trunk to my car to grab the camera and extension tube to photograph him. Thanks, Mr. Dragonfly.

Farm Light

Sometimes the world throws you these little gems and you just have to stop and admire. Sites like this are slowly giving way to ugly McMansions and sprawl. I am not oppose to change and growth is inevitable. Life can be hectic even here in little Charlottesville but we are fortunate enough to be surrounded […]

The Purple Cow

I decided to take a drive through the Shenandoah Valley a few months ago. I headed over 250 into Waynesboro and then down Route 340 towards Elkton. I drove past this place which sells ice cream and slammed on the breaks. Ok, I actually made a safe U-turn. Either way, it seemed like a nice […]

Looking Out from the Inside.

I remember when I shot this photo feeling sorrow for these two dogs. It wasn’t a hot day and I was not concerned for their safety, but they had a loneliness in their eyes. Their owner was inside the restaurant alongside the Skyline Drive. I wanted to play with them and maybe cheer them up. […]
