Round for a reason

de Havilland Comet
When I was a little kid my parents bought me a telescope and I couldn’t wait until dark to start playing around with it. I placed the tripod on the end of the porch and aimed the lens at other interesting stuff in the bright afternoon sky. I don’t think I had ever flown yet or even been near an airplane. It was very exciting. Through the telescope I could just make out the round windows of an airplane that had taken off from PHL International shortly before. This picture made me think back to this memory. Many years later, via the History Channel, I learned the windows are round for a reason. The de Havilland Comet was the first commercial jetliner and was a real beauty. Unfortunately, they started falling out of the sky in droves. After several accidents, engineers learned the points on the square windows were focusing the stress of he pressurized cabin and rupturing. The solution, round windows.

  2. Thanks buddy,

It is always good to have a 600 f/4 lying around. Even if it is 20 years old and manual focus.
